![]() ![]() So I went on the hunt for a good monitor controller that was Eucon compatible. It looks significantly more diminutive, but has more power, but worse faders, but more versatility, but no real inbuilt monitor functions (of course). An insurance claim paid for some portion of it, and I was able to buy a 2 S1's and an Avid Dock with 3 Ipads. But then a power surge killed my XMON and also part of DCOMMAND. ![]() I've been using a D-Command for the better part of 15 years. You didn’t say anyithing i your original post about having an xmon This solution will probably work best and be a good bang for the buck and allow me to sell the Hilo. LUCKILY, I just decided to use the XMON with the modified control cable to work with MIDI and EUCON. just too many ways large volume spikes can occur and potentially cause damage.Įven just a random errant pop from a surge or anything really - coming through the D/A interface at full level could really cause some damage. It's much better to have the input gain high and output gain low if possible.Īlso - I run a studio where others will be using the monitoring rig, and so it won't work from that perspective.Īlso it does not allow for an easy way to play audio from the computer generally unless I also keep track of that volume. I don't want to be keeping the output gain high and the input gain low. If you’re worried about it getting too loud, put a brick wall limiter on the EuControl master fader to your monitoring path so if by chance it gets turned up too much, the limiter will kick in.īussing structure in Pro Tools needs to get setup appropriately with a separate monitoring bus. If I’m doing anything with the monitor level, it’s turning it down. All my gain staging is set to unity level out of Pro Tools to 79dB reference level in the room. Never had any issues with it being too loud and frying my ears. I use the Master Fader solution and it works just fine. It's also only adjusting the input gain to the D/A converter which is not a good solution for gain staging the output volume. It's too easy for this to get reset and too loud and fry our ears. I'm SCARED to use a Master Fader Eucon assignment in Pro Tools. Also, the Hilo has to sit rackmounted above the HEDD and ergonomically it isn't great, and I'd like to use the control room/monitor knob on my Avid Dock. However, this is a waste of a lynx Hilo and I'd rather sell it. The D/A feeds my ATC SCM150ASL's and right now I use a lynx Hilo as just a volume attenuator from the HEDD's out. I have a Cranesong HEDD Quantum which I use for D/A and A/D. I just need a simple volume attenuator and for it to be controlled by the Avid Dock via Eucon. These are totally overkill products from the perspective of a simple transparent line level attenuator. There seems to be a simple industry solution missing for those of us who want to use the Avid Dock as a monitor controller but don't need the functionality and cost of a MTRX/Studio or DaD or Trinnov DMon solution.
